XAVIER POOLE
DOLL UNIVERSE
Forty Cents a Soul
Horton, Nebraska • Est. 1905
Every Doll Has a Story.
In the fictional town of Horton, Nebraska, the Xavier Poole Doll Company earned a reputation for making the most lifelike porcelain dolls anyone had ever seen.
Behind the factory doors was a dreadful bargain. Families sold human souls for forty cents apiece, and the company sealed them inside porcelain.
The dolls could see, hear, think and remember. They carried their former lives with them, even as new owners carried them home.
None of them could escape.
